Gathering line blockage remediation using WSTT
CS Gas was engaged to provide a solution for a blocked gathering line impacting ongoing well servicing operations, after conventional remediation methods proved unable to effectively reach and remove the obstruction.
Industry: Coal seam gas / Energy infrastructure
Services: Workover Solids Treatment, Field Services, Fluid Management
Equipment: Water Solids Treatment Trailer (WSTT)
The challenge
The client was experiencing a significant blockage within a gathering line, creating operational constraints and affecting production volumes.
Alternative remediation methods had been assessed prior to CS Gas involvement, however equipment limitations prevented other contractors from effectively reaching the blockage location within the line. As a result, the client had scheduled disruptive maintenance activities estimated to cost approximately $750,000, with the potential for substantial operational downtime and production impacts.
A solution was required that could safely and effectively clear the blockage while minimising disruption to ongoing operations and avoiding major maintenance intervention.

The solution
Prior to commencing disruptive maintenance works, the client engaged CS Gas to deploy a Water Solids Treatment Trailer (WSTT) as an alternative remediation solution.
Unlike conventional equipment, WSTT’s controlled-pressure technology is not limited by reach, enabling effective blockage removal deeper within the gathering network over extended pipeline lengths.
Utilising these additional capabilities within the WSTT system, CS Gas was able to be effective further into the gathering line than conventional tooling methods previously attempted onsite. The solution enabled the blockage to be targeted and the line to be flushed without requiring invasive maintenance activities.
By leveraging practical field experience, responsive mobilisation and specialised fluid management capability, CS Gas delivered a cost-effective and operationally efficient alternative for the client.
The outcome
The blockage was successfully removed, restoring gathering line functionality and allowing the system to be flushed and returned to service.
As a result, the client was able to mobilise a well servicing unit to site earlier than anticipated, significantly reducing operational disruption and avoiding the substantial costs associated with scheduled maintenance works.
The successful outcome demonstrated the value of CS Gas’ WSTT capabilities in supporting operational continuity, reducing downtime and delivering practical field solutions for complex site challenges.
Through adapting to operational requirements over the last 3 years, we have been able to remain a valued part of the process for the client. CS Gas is now a proven provider of gathering line blockage remediation for larger and more challenging blockages located deeper within the gathering network.
