Client: Incitec Pivot / Central Petroleum

Location: Surat Basin, QLD

Industry: Gas Extraction

Services: Design and fabrication of surface equipment and provision of field services

The client

Central Petroleum and Incitec Pivot Queensland Gas Pty Ltd share a 50/50 interest in The Range Gas Project that covers an area of 77km2 in the Surat Basin in QLD.

The challenge

The client challenge is exploratory gas extraction. CS GAS submitted a tender to fulfil Central Petroleum’s need for surface equipment, field services and expertise to operate three wells to convert their gas resource to reserves at The Range in the Surat Basin.

The solution

With significant experience in the on-site management of gas wells, as well as being able to provide the surface equipment then service and manage it, CS GAS was awarded the project.

CS GAS installed three modified versions of our Pro Skids, as well as gas and water gathering lines, utility flare and generators to monitor and manage gas flow from the site.

After engaging our onsite safety manager, we worked with a team of electricians, fitters and trade assistants to get the site operational. Once up and running, we installed a site operator that operates and maintains the equipment with remote support monitoring the wells.

Our field services manage the site daily, communicating regularly with the client and overseeing safety, as well as the monitoring and control of key parameters such as:

  • Water levels
  • Pump speeds
  • Valve positions

The outcome

The overarching goal of the project is to assess the potential of the site before requesting an ATP. CS GAS’ field services expertise has proven invaluable to Central Petroleum and Incitec Pivot in monitoring and control, giving timely onsite support and feedback as they work through the pilot project and subsequent reports and project proposals.

There are quirks in the formation of every site that need careful attention and expertise to give the best chance of gas flow. A quality field service operator that can ensure no stops and starts is the only way to enable a client to see naturally what is happening with their site.

Led by CS GAS’ experience, the outcome is that we have not only been able to assist with the goal of maximum flow, but can progress to maximising the well after the pilot by providing a full site solution when the time comes.

Engineering design, fabrication and supply of surface  equipment, commissioning and then the ongoing management of the field safety and services is our end goal.

Working with a client and building intimate knowledge of a site from the pilot stage enables the CS GAS single point of accountability to shine.
