  • Client: Westside
  • Location: Queensland
  • Industry: Coal Seam Gas
  • Services: Engineering Design, Fabrication, Instrumentation
  • Value: $5 million

The client

Westside has gone through a significant transformation to become a leading producer of Coal Seam Gas (CSG) in Queensland. In partnership with Mitsui E&P Australia, Westside now has 600 square kilometres of gas-rich acreage in Queensland.

CS GAS have been working with Westside for more than 10 years.

The challenge

In 2015, Westside required a significant number of well head skids to operate an extensive CSG operation. Whilst CS GAS had previously supplied smaller volumes of production skids to Westside, for this project we had to substantially scale up to deliver the required number of well head production skids.

The solution

CS GAS’ ability to complete all aspects of the work with Westside provided continuity for the client in terms of design through to use in the field. Previously the incumbent had performed only some aspects of the work, with separate engineering, providing difficulty in the manufacture and installation of the skid on site.

Together with Westside, CS GAS updated and regenerated the design with our multidisciplinary engineering team in-house, adding value to Westside’s process. CS GAS scaled up its project delivery with a fully functioning 6000m2 of workshop space now allocated to several clients across the industry and improvements in project pass- through.

The outcome

As a result, our fabrication of well head production skids for Westside has continued since 2015, with CS GAS producing them cheaper and more efficiently than the incumbent. We have continued improving the design and economics over the years since our initial production. The process is streamlined with efficiency in manufacturing and assembly, with scale allowing additional lead time and economic improvements. We have grown together over the years revising and fine-tuning on each production run, and are now producing the third generation of our designs for Westside.

At CS GAS we do everything onsite, therefore the main value add is there are no subcontractors. The full solution entails design, fabrication, instrumentation, electrical control systems and integration onsite, including the setup of remote control programming and communications.

Benefits of one supplier

  • More flexibility in the build cycle, with the ability to act quicker if adjustments need to be made along the way
  • No mark-up of subcontractor costs or supply chain
  • Accountability for schedule

Client control of the full process Westside continues to be happy with the added benefits of strength in quality assurance, compliance, traceability as well as convenience. We continue to work with Westside to support their CSG business to this day.
