Yatala Oxygen Plant

CS GAS was engaged by a leading global industrial gas provider to install a major structural, mechanical, piping and E&I package for the Yatala Oxygen Plant, with a total project value of $8 million.

Location: QLD

Industry: Industrial Gas / Manufacturing Infrastructure

Services: Structural, mechanical, piping and E&I installation package

The challenge

The project was undertaken within a live operating plant, creating significant site constraints and limited available space for construction activities. Coordination of heavy lifts, up to 50 tonnes, required careful planning and execution while simultaneously mobilising equipment within a larger active construction environment.

The scope also involved tight technical specifications and close collaboration with an international client, requiring disciplined project controls, quality assurance and responsive communication throughout delivery.

The solution

CS GAS leveraged its in-house capabilities to complete almost 100% of the structural, mechanical and piping package using internal labour resources. This included specialist on-site stainless-steel pipe welding, ensuring quality control, flexibility and efficient sequencing across the program.

Heavy lift cranes of up to 50 tonnes, supplied by Universal Cranes, were safely and efficiently coordinated within the constrained live site environment, while the in-house workforce enabled rapid adaptation to changing project requirements and site conditions.

By combining fabrication, installation and E&I expertise under one contractor, CS GAS delivered a streamlined execution model with a single point of accountability.

The outcome

Following six months of delivery and with approximately 40 tradespeople at peak workforce levels, the project achieved Practical Completion ahead of schedule and on budget.

The successful outcome led to additional works being awarded post-completion, including site-wide alterations and labour support for the client’s upcoming live commissioning activities.

The project also established a strong ongoing relationship between CS GAS and the client, with further opportunities now being pursued across Australia.
